Lecture Title

Solution Focused Treatment With Families of a Young Stuttering Child

Abstract

Solution Focused Treatment situates itself within a systemic therapeutic view. It proceeds a holistic, circular vision. The context, the relation between the elements are important. The question is not why something is happening but how it is happening.

The most of know-how that he needs in living the client generally has. Often he does not realise this or does not have for himself the correct strategy. We cooperate with the client in a respectful manner so that he recovers the possibility to choose for himself and not longer to be stuck in its symptoms. We examine the flow chart of the therapeutic relationship.

Therapy with families with young stuttering children is illuminated from this framework. Case examples of conversations by means of the strategy of a 7-stepdance are shown.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will learn:

  1. the knowledge of the solution focused reference frame particularly the flowchart and the 7-stepdance,
  2. the importance of the use of the flowchart in a therapeutic relationship,
  3. by means of modelling how to use the 7-stepdance in a solution focused therapeutic conversation by looking at examples of a video taped conversation,
  4. to see the possibilities of the solution focussed model.
