Het American Studies Centre ontvangt op woensdag 7 maart David Makovsky, Director of the Project on the Middle East Peace Process aan The Washington Institute. Zijn lezing 'Transatlantic Unity in the Mideast: What are the Prospects?' behandelt de huidige situatie in het Midden-Oosten.

Biografie

Voor hij The Washington Institute vervoegde, volgde David Makovsky als journalist gedurende elf jaar het vredesproces in het Midden-Oosten (van 1989 tot 2000).

Hij is voormalig hoofdredacteur van de Jerusalem Post en trad op als diplomatiek correspondent voor de Israëlische krant Haaretz.

Daarnaast was hij elf jaar actief als correspondent in Jeruzalem voor het magazine U.S. News and World Report, waarvoor hij nog steeds schrijft als freelanceredacteur. In 1994 kreeg hij de National Press Club's 1994 Edwin M. Hood Award for Diplomatic Correspondence voor een verslag over PLO-financiering waaraan hij meewerkte.

Hij doceert eveneens Middle East Studies aan de Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University in Washington, D.C.
